At the age of 21 Karl Härgestam left his home Sweden, for the mandate God has given him to reach the unreached people in Africa with the Gospel.

During his ministry in Africa, Karl, together with his family and staff, became the reason to an enormous change amongst African tribes that never before had heard the name of Jesus. Many of these tribes now have strongly established local churches.

Karl formed Joshua Campaign to reach more people with the Gospel through crusades and at the same time challenge the Christians to finish the great assignment. Millions of people in the North-East region of Africa have been impacted by the work of Joshua Campaign.

The conception of Joshua Campaign

God birthed a vision in us to reach beyond a tribe or town but to reach an entire region. This vision was to mobilize every Christian in a region to take their responsibility in reaching their neighbor in prayer and witnessing, and then invite them to a great crusade to be held in later. What started as a spark blazed into a fire as Karl Härgestam shared the vision with a crowd of about 3,000 Ethiopian church leaders gathered at a leadership conference. These leaders took the vision home to their churches and organizations, and immediately an entire region united for one cause - spreading the Kingdom of God. Undoubtedly, the revival that came was the result of each individual praying and taking the responsibility for reaching their neighbor.  

What seemed to be an impossible task began to unfold before our eyes. This led to the largest gathering ever in Ethiopian history. People said that it couldn't be done, but when the crusade began, the impact was so great that all public school systems and government offices closed for the whole week of meeting. All in all, an estimated 1/5 million people came to hear the Gospel this week, over 200,000 in single services. It was the most amazing sight we had ever seen. People walked for days just to come, some were carried on stretchers because they were unable to walk. People of all kinds were present, from the highest leaders to the poorest street person, they all came, and the Lord touched the individual lives in a great way. The crusade committee reported on Sunday afternoon, which was the last day of the crusade that over 18,031 people accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior for the first time. These results are beyond every expectation we ever hoped for, but the true miracle is that a year after the crusade, the churches in the region have reported that over 75% have been baptized into the local churches. This can only happen when all believers take their responsibility in reaching their neighbor.  

Jesus gave an assignment to His friends, to bring the Gospel to every person, tribe and nation. We made a decision to not accept the fact that the assignment is still uncompleted 2000 years after Jesus entrusted His friends to complete it. We have gone with the Gospel from city to city in Ethiopia and we now attempt to go from nation to nation in Africa. As we have campaigned a country, we now will campaign a continent.
